How Microneedling Works.
Microneedling technology can dramatically improve the appearance of the skin. Microneedling creates microchannels into the skin, stimulating keratinocytes to increase production of collagen and elastin. This stimulates the release of epidermal growth factors, without damaging the skin.
Microneedling devices use micro fine short needles 0.5-2.5 millimeters in length to introduce microchannels into the skin. The perforations made by the small needles give a controlled injury to the skin. This normal skin response to a controlled injury results in old dead skin being sloughed off, being replaced by new rejuvenated skin. The rejuvenated skin appears fresh, and has a reflective dewy quality to the skin.
Your Strella professional may want to use topical numbing prior to procedure, to make the experience more comfortable. She may request that you arrive 30-45 minutes prior to your procedure so the numbing cream has time to work its magic. The fine tip needles will be applied to the skin, this can feel like small pin pricks. The procedure will take approximately 30 minutes, not counting the time for numbing application and absorption. Your skin will be slightly swollen and small punctures may be visible for 48-72 hours past procedure. As the new skin is regenerating you may be rough to the touch, as if you have a moderate sunburn. You will start seeing improvement as early as 48-72 hours, and it will continue to improve over a 3-6 month period. Your esthetician may suggest you repeat the procedure in 4-6 weeks, until you reach the desired effect.
